Choosing an Ascended Master Sponsor

A divine seed-potential is locked within each of us. It unfolds and grows as we make the choices through our free will personality that allow our soul to draw closer to our Divine Self. Step by step, we become adepts. We assimilate the consciousness of Christ and we become masters of time and space. When we have fulfilled all of our spiritual work and balanced our karma, we ascend home to the original state of divine oneness that our souls knew before our descent into matter, free at last from the rounds of rebirth.

Many beings have walked this path before us. They are our brothers and sisters of light who have ascended into the heavens, into higher realms of consciousness and service. These ascended masters point the way home. They tutor our souls in the etheric retreats of the heaven world and we develop a daily communion with their presence. They are as close to us as our very breath. It is only a matter of attuning our consciousness.

The ascended masters are as innumerable as the stars. Those who specifically serve souls on Earth have given us their names so that we may call upon them. When we do so, they are able to intercede in our lives to help us resolve challenges and put on more of our Christ consciousness so that we can become candidates for the ascension.

The ascended masters understand our concerns in the most personal and intimate way. They do not judge us, but seek to assist us in coming up higher and conquering our lesser self. Each master has developed, so to speak, a “specialty” and can be called upon to lend us his or her momentum in a particular area.

The masters are also greatly concerned with the state of the world. They pull together to assist us in fending off dire circumstances that could come to pass on a regional or planetary scale, to mitigate planetary karma whenever possible and to find solutions to ongoing challenges.

One of the most rapid ways to advance on the spiritual path is to meditate on the picture of an ascended master that we choose as our Sponsoring Master. This could be Jesus, Mother Mary, Kuthumi (the ascended Saint Francis), El Morya, Saint Germain, Gautama Buddha, Maitreya or another master we feel close to. We choose a Sponsoring Master by studying his teachings, his service to life and his incarnations on earth. The ascended master Kuthumi explained to students of Theosophy that to earn sponsorship by a master, we commune with the master each day and do good works in that master's name. We can read more about this in the book, K.H. Letters to C.W. Leadbeater.

Having a Sponsoring Master helps us balance our karma more quickly. Kuthumi explained that the master takes on between 88 and 92 percent of our personal karma and then gives us world karma to carry in his name through world service. World karma is easier to balance than personal karma because it is less personal to us. With the help of our master, the sooner we balance our personal karma, the sooner we can pursue our dharma, our life mission.

When we look at a portrait of the master, we see our own Christ self personified through the master. That picture of the master becomes a teraphim, a transport vehicle to higher consciousness. Through his or her portrait, the master helps us to connect to our own Holy Christ Self in a very personal way. The master’s heart becomes a transformer of consciousness, a divine mediator for us, and we feel that “rapprochement” with God.

When we gaze into the eyes of the master, we notice that the eyes will change with the rhythm of our heartbeat. This is the alchemy of the figure-eight flow whereby we exchange spirals of identity with the master. It is a threefold process of concentration, meditation and contemplation.

Concentrating on the master’s portrait activates the blue plume of divine power that abides in the threefold flame in the heart. Meditating on the master’s portrait helps us to activate the yellow plume of divine wisdom in our heart and to receive ideations from the master’s consciousness as the next right step in our life. Contemplation on the master’s portrait activates the pink plume of divine love in our heart. We feel the merging of identity where we become one with our master through love. During our contemplation, the master literally takes on our identity and we take on the master’s identity. The master purifies the identity we have cycled through him or her and gives it back to us.

The more we do this exercise of concentration, meditation and contemplation, the more we are able to experience that elevated consciousness. The Sponsoring Master literally takes our child soul by the hand and rises her up the spinal altar on the shushumna, ida and pingala energies. The ida energy is for the mastery of the emotions. The pingala energy is for the mastery of the mind. The shushumna energy is for the mastery of our actions.

As we exchange spirals of identity with the master, we find that our crystal cord—the pipeline of energy from the heart of our I AM Presence and Holy Christ Self into our physical heart— increases, and we become just stewards of that energy.

This creates a resonance field, like a magnet, that draws our soul into our main heart chakra. In that moment, our soul is no longer in the seat-of-the-soul chakra and in the Hades of the astral body. At a conscious level, we have become the shepherd on behalf of our Holy Christ Self and Mighty I AM Presence. We choose to function within the infinite choices of God’s consciousness, out of the finite choices of the subconscious.
